Wayne Lee Whitson, Sr. of Ridgely, MD, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at his home in Ridgely. He was 75 years old.
Born in Johnson City, TN, Mr. Whitson was the son of the late Farrell Whitson and Sybil Goad Whitson. His family moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1956. He was a 1968 graduate of North Caroline High School. He worked for Saulsbury Brothers in Ridgely as a truck driver before becoming a machine mechanic for Kraft Foods in Dover, DE. He retired from Kraft Foods in 2005 after 21 years. He was also a NASCAR fan, enjoyed harness racing, and watching Westerns on television.
Mr. Whitson is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Lou Whitson of Ridgely; a son, Wayne Lee Whitson, Jr. of Harrington, DE; a sister, Barbara E. Walls (Lester) of Ridgely and a brother, Douglas K. Whitson (Kathy) of Goldsboro, MD; many nieces and nephews; and his caregivers, Heather Sauerhoff and Nicole Gondeck. He was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Ann Montgomery.
A graveside memorial service will be private. If friends wish to send a memorial donation in Mr. Whitson’s memory, the family suggests sending it to the Ridgely Volunteer Fire Company, 101 Sunset Blvd., Ridgely, MD 21660.
