Wesley Benjamin Horney, formerly of Goldsboro, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025. He was 84 years old.
Born October 14, 1940, in Grasonville, MD, Mr. Horney was the son of the late Wesley Raymond Horney and Nataline Tarr Horney. Mr. Horney attended Stevensville High School, after which he joined the U.S. Navy for four years. After leaving the Navy, he worked as a waterman for several years and then made his career as a correctional officer at the Patuxent Institution in Jessup, MD for 25 years before retiring. He then had his own business of Wes’ Lawn and Odd Jobs service for 13 years and later worked part time for the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office. After retiring in 2005, he and his wife, Marion, enjoyed traveling and camping until her death in 2009.
Mr. Horney was preceded in death by his 6-year-old son, Dwayne Wesley Horney (from a previous marriage), and his wife, Marion E. Horney. He is survived by his two stepsons: Ronald M. Dixon (Melissa) of Henderson, MD, and Philip J. Dixon (Christina) of Georgetown, DE; his dear friend, Ann Monath of Easton; six grandchildren: Rachel Dixon, Andrew Dixon, Laci Dixon, Laney Dixon, Joshua Hossack and Aaron Hossack; and a great grandchild, Selena. He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Joan Anthony and Carol Sadler.
Friends may visit with the family from 12 to 1 on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Moore Funeral Home, P.A. located at 12 S. 2nd St. Denton, MD. The funeral service will follow at 1 PM. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park located at 11365 Ocean Gateway in Easton, MD. The family requests donations in Wes’ memory to the Goldsboro Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 35, Goldsboro, MD 21636.
