William August Behrens

     William “Bill” August Behrens, Sr. of Cordova, MD, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family after a very brief illness on Friday, January 22, 2021. He was 67 years old. 

     Born in Easton, MD on September 22, 1953, Mr. Behrens was the son of the late August William Behrens and Madge Hollingsworth Behrens. He was a graduate of Easton High School and Lincoln Technical Institute.

     After working for several car dealerships, Mr. Behrens started Behrens Automotive, Inc. in Easton from which he had retired in June 2020 after 34 years in business. He was a lifetime member of the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cordova where he served on the Council and the Cemetery Committee. He was a Life Member of the Cordova Volunteer Firemen’s Association where he held many offices including President, Chief, and was currently Treasurer. In 2019, he was inducted into the Talbot County Firemen’s Hall of Fame. He was a member of the MD 4-H All Stars and an avid supporter of his children and grandchildren in their 4-H and sports activities. He was also a supporter of the Talbot Ag Center. In the late 70’s, Bill’s passion for automobiles lead him to build and race a dirt track car. He participated in many races in Delaware where he also set track records.

     Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan H. Behrens of Cordova; two daughters: Kelly B. Shannon and her husband Mark of Biglerville, PA and their children Brendan, Tyler, and Jack, and Kathy B. Barletta and her husband Rocco of Cordova and their children Couper and Ella; and a son, William A. Behrens, Jr. and his wife Stacey of Cordova and their children Ava and Colton; and many loving family members and friends. He is preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Behrens Bridge.

     There will be a private memorial service at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. On Saturday, February 6, the public is invited to an 11 o’clock graveside memorial service in the adjacent church cemetery at 12095 Blades Road in Cordova.
