William Schelhouse, Sr. Obituary

William B. Schelhouse, Sr., of Centreville, MD, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at the Corsica Hills Center. He was 92 years old.

Mr. Schelhouse was born in Centreville on November 18, 1930, to the late Webster Schelhouse and Regina Boone Schelhouse.

Bill grew up in Centreville and had many special memories of the good ole days of Queen Anne’s County and he loved to tell those stories. Bill proudly served in the 129th Infantry Division of the National Guard from 1947-1957.

He met the love of his life Jane Kinnamon Schelhouse in 1956 on the only blind date either of them had ever been on. They were married on January 20, 1957. The family surprised them with a 60th anniversary party in 2017 and they had over 100 family and friends attend. Bill and Jane were infamous in this small community for their love of line dancing, they have danced in small halls and in the local nursing home. He had worked in his large garden over the years and shared many fruits and veggies with family and friends.

Bill worked for Mears Barber Shop, and he ran the Truck Stop on Rt 301, he sprayed Johnson Grass for QAC Soil Conservation. Bill drove a school bus for Queen Anne County, he carried 3 generations of families over the span of 50 years. He also drove for QAC Adult Ride.

Bill had a dynamite blasting business that he ran with his sons for 20 years and they would implode and/or explode many things from ditches for farmers to taking down 2 very large old very sturdy buildings in Lewes, DE and shooting off local fireworks in Centreville in 1985.

Above all the things he did in his life, Bill loved spending time with his family, and he was a typical Pop-pop, being silly with the little ones.

Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jane K. Schelhouse; two sons: Billy Schelhouse, Jr. (Terri) of Denton and Rodney Schelhouse (Kim) of Centreville; six grandchildren: Jimmy Schelhouse (Tricia), Rachel Barry (David), Eryk Rada, Tyler Rada (Megan), Trisha Rada, and Tessa Rada; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Jean Wood. In additional to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers: Orville and Aubrey “Honey Boy” Schelhouse, and his daughter, Kim Schelhouse Rada.
