Winona (Winnie) Lee Holden

     Winona Lee Holden of Denton, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home with family and caregivers on Monday, May 26, 2025. She was 84 years old.

     Winnie was born on December 5, 1940, in Easton, MD; she was the daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson and Nora Mae Harrison Wilson. Winnie graduated from Greensboro High School in 1958 and Salisbury State College in 1962. She taught 2nd grade at Denton Elementary. She later graduated from Loyola College in 1992 with a Master’s in Education. Winnie was a guidance counselor for many years at North Dorchester Middle School and Warwick Elementary School. She was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church, CASA, and Caroline and Dorchester Retired School Personnel Association. Winnie is survived by a daughter, Melinda Whitehurst (Stewart); a son, Scott Holden (Lisa); five grandchildren: Makayla, Tori, Whitt, Carly, and Kinleigh; and her wonderful caretakers: Rachel Gross, Eddie Gross, Gabrilla Moreland, and Cecil Robinson. Winnie was vested in her grandchildren as they journeyed through life. She always had kind words for everyone she knew or met. Winnie loved to travel, celebrate every holiday, and give gifts to her grandchildren.

     Friends may visit with the family Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 10 to 11 at St. Luke’s Methodist Church 100 S. 5th Ave. Denton, MD. The funeral service will follow at 11AM. The burial will be private.
